For the past few years, I have been consulting with the wonderful folks over at\u00a0Solution Street<\/a>\u00a0on a couple of projects for their customers. Recently, I was invited to the Solution Street office to\u00a0give an introduction to a new programming language called\u00a0Elixir<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Elixir is a functional programming language that runs on the BEAM, which is the standard Erlang virtual machine in use today. Erlang was created by\u00a0Ericsson<\/a>\u00a0in 1986\u00a0to power telephone switches. \u00a0The virtual machine has been designed specifically to support distributed, fault-tolerant, soft-real-time, non-stop applications.<\/p>\n

You can watch the presentation on\u00a0youtube<\/a>\u00a0or download just the\u00a0slides<\/a>.\u00a0In the presentation, I start by covering the background of the language, and then quickly move into some live coding for about 40 minutes.<\/p>\n
